Mobile marketing is one of the most effective tools to spread marketing messages quickly without spending a lot of money. Mobile marketing campaigns literally reach millions of people instantly.
However, mobile websites need to take SEO into consideration before jumping into mobile marketing. Everyone has a mobile phone and mobile technology makes it easy to quickly solve people’s problems and easily sell products and services.
Before launching a mobile marketing campaign, use these top five SEO tips for mobile websites.
- Incorporate on-page optimization – Implement well-researched keywords into title tags and meta-descriptions.
- Make sure key content is placed at the top of each page – This makes it easier for spider bots to crawl your content in search engines.
- Don’t forget about mobile search engines such as Google and Yahoo Mobile and Abphone – Make sure web pages can be crawled by these mobile search engines.
- Get rid of any plug-in content (such as Java and Flash) unless it’s absolutely needed.
- Check out website accessibility guidelines as directed by the WC3. Make sure that websites easily work on wireless handsets. If these rules aren’t followed, your site won’t be found on mobile search engines.
Besides these important SEO tips, make sure to keep up with the current mobile technology. What’s the point of a well-optimized website if you don’t adhere to the latest guidelines and rules?
Don’t forget to optimize to local searches – people constantly use mobile phones for local business searches. Stay on top of mobile analytics and research mobile campaigns by using analytics tools designed specifically for mobile SEO campaigns such as Bango, Mobilytics and Amethon.

Good stuff – There really are a lot of platforms that use this mobile technology.
And with everything integrating together all the time if you own a website and want to make sales you will need to succumb to mobile crawlers and optimize your site for such a purpose . One thing i did not know -No java and no flash for mobile , so thank you for that tip

Hey Brian, thanks for sharing…it’s sort of like the chicken or the egg…first finding customers and then creating mobile websites for your business. I’ve been doing this for over twelve months now and it is now my most productive lead generation strategy.
Yes good stuff!
I try not to put java or flash into any of my sites (although it looks good) it can bog down load times on certain computers and flash doesn’t work on the iPhone or iPad.
Great article, thanks!
I’ve been a proponent of the “no java, no flash” for a long time. They depend on having the right versions installed, and the “right” browsers, as well. You want your page to look the same on as many platforms, and browsers, as possible. It also has to load quickly, and not take forever. I’ve heard that you have 3.2 seconds to catch and keep the viewers interest. Load time comes directly out of that 3.2 seconds.
Mobile devices will RULE the marketplace in the coming years, and if your website isn’t built to handle this correctly, you’ll be dead in the water.
Thanks for the great article and keep up the good work.
