This past weekend I attended the wedding shower for my long time Executive Assistant, Sherrie, accompanied by my wife Karen. If you attend our events, or are one of our high level members, you know Sherrie. She's the one running around our venues making sure the speakers are all present, refreshments are out, the temperature is just the way I like it (COLD!), etc. She's a real "I" dotter and "T" crosser. Below is a picture of Sherrie and another member of the GKIC Staff, Darlene, at the shower.

This week, I am featuring an article I wrote where I reveal, in a nutshell, my strategies that allow me to achieve SOLD OUT registration status on all of our GKIC events. While most entrepreneurs who hold events are struggling to fill the room, my events are standing room only, every single time. Today, I'll show you just how that's done.

Getting Butts In The Room

This past year I had some HUGE successes with our own GKIC Events in filling seats. The 2010 SuperConference(SM) had over 1,100 in attendance. We already have 800 people registered for the upcoming InfoSUMMIT(SM), and that's three months away. What's the secret? Why are we having more success in filling events while others are struggling?

I contend it's for three reasons:

#1: We put together great events! We get the best speakers and keep the subject matter on target. For the GKIC events, Dan and I are constantly brainstorming for the best topics as well as thinking about the best speakers to bring to our stage. (Hint: We even survey our own members to ask them what they would like to hear.)

#2: We write compelling copy. I can't emphasize this enough. Writing good copy IS a big reason for the success we have achieved. I'm not saying to write anything that you can't deliver, but you do need to give the topics and speakers some sizzle.

#3: Go deeper in your funnel. By that, I mean, sending more messages more often, and using different media. Now this is one mistake that so many others are making. Not just in trying to fill seats for an event, but in all aspects of their marketing. People underestimate the difficulty of the task. I'm convinced that the reason why most big name marketers have HUGELY successful events is because they realize what it is going to take in order to fill seats. (They also realize they needed great copy...that's why many of the top dogs hire me... I say shamelessly.)

For both of our major annual events, we began marketing them over eight months out, giving ourselves plenty of time. Each campaign used multi-media including long form sales letters, email, fax, postcards, CD mailings, and a comprehensive stick campaign.

For example, one of the components of one of our campaigns was a CD mailing that came in a padded envelope that I sent out to our members. When the member opened the envelope, he found a CD with a curiosity provoking sizzling title, a tri-folded sheet, written on the outside "Open & Read This If You Are Still Seriously Skeptical About Attending This Boot Camp", and an enrollment form.

While my space for this article is limited to 1-page, I could write an entire newsletter about the strategies and thinking used in this mailing. Let me point out just a few of them:

1. THE CD: I really like CDs as part of the marketing funnel. I find there are some people who just won't read anything, but if you do a good enough job of creating a benefit-driven or curiosity-provoking title on a CD, they'll pop that thing into their car as they're traveling to and from work. The CD contains mini-interviews with three of the speakers giving everyone a preview of what they will be hearing at the event. I acted as the moderator and then gave a sales pitch' towards the end.

2. THE "OPEN & READ THIS..." INSERT: Since this mailing went out to prospects who have not yet registered, you need to be willing to get stronger and bolder in your copy. You will notice that the copy could even be construed as somewhat offensive.

Simply put, you need to be willing to sometimes offend people in order to grab attention. After all, previous attempts didn't get the job done. Why would you think that more of the same will?

3. THE ENROLLMENT FORM: Enrollment forms are so important, yet so over looked by many who deliver them. Many people will skip right over everything else and go straight to the enrollment form to see what things cost. Therefore, the enrollment form has to be able to sell on its own strength. The form should have a guarantee' right in the headline, a bullet list of the speakers and other attractions, the premium (goodie bag), and all of the ordering information.

Plus, on the other side, the copy further sells the event and provides bullets of what they will hear on the CD.

So that's it. My secret to event success... shrunken down into a bite size format of course.
